The 2009 Boston Model Arab League Summit will be hosted by Northeastern University and the National Council on US-Arab Relations. Summit on Society, Preservation, and Sustainable Development
Topic 1: Assessing the role of the League in fostering and/or maintaining democracies in the Arab World
Topic 2: Establishing an Arab League protocol for the protection of historical artifacts and sites in times of war and political instability.
Topic 3: Establishing a plan for long-term sustainable economic growth in a post-Hussein and post-war Iraq.
Summit on Security and Political Stability
Topic 1: Creating a protocol for border security and the prevention of the trafficking of small arms or the passage of militants into members of the League.
Topic 2: Addressing the challenges posed by militant and terrorist groups to state and regional security.
Topic 3: Determining the role of the league in state-fragmentation and independence movements with regard to Morocco, Somalia, and Iraq.
Special Session of the Arab Court of Justice
Advisory Opinion 1: Establishing the legality of banning political parties and movements that endorse the use of political violence in their own or in other states.
Advisory Opinion 2: Establishing the question of continuing reparations in light of regime change and/or political and economic collapse.
Advisory Opinion 3: Determining the role of Islam in the formation of an Arab democracy’s laws and rights.
